One of the
most vibrantly mesmerising places of Delhi, even if you enter Khan Market with
Herculean hopes you won’t be disappointed one bit. A delight for shopaholics,
one of Delhi’s classiest destinations, it has got so much to offer that one
can’t help but be spellbound. Named in the honour of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan,
this is apparently the 21st costliest market strip in the world!
Located in
the southern part of New Delhi, it is just a few blocks away from India Gate.
For people coming from South Delhi, bus or an auto are easily available. For
others, the market is also accessible through the Violet Line on the city’s
Metro rail system.
Brand-conscious
form a huge fan base of the market who visit it for international as well as
Indian ethnic brand outlets. This market is certainly a letdown for bargain
hunters & a little too heavy on many a pockets however, the apparels available
here are so eye-catching . The international brands such as Nike, Reebok, Tommy
Hilfiger, Benetton etc and ethnic ones such as Fab India, Anokhi &
beautiful lifestyle stores such as Oma, Goodearth etc coexist in the area.
Accessories
& jewellery shops too are remarkable but pricey. The flamboyant
experimentation with colours, the intricate detailing & novelty in creation
are designed to take your heart away. The jewellery here ranges from funky
college-going to heavy traditional. Amrapali, Safeera & Silverline are some
popular silver jewellery stores besides other well-known brands such as
Swarovski.
NICHE SHOPPING
Another
highlight of the market is its top-notch Indian boutiques. If attending a wedding, wish to stand apart from
the crowd – one of Khan Market’s boutiques should be your destination. This is
the place where you get just the right kind of Indian clothes – trendy, elegant
& glamorous. This is certainly a place mainly for fashion addicts. These
stores have a huge & unique selection of books such as Bahrisons &
other niche local bookstores strewn across the entire market.
There are various restaurants, cafés, bars,
lounges hidden away here - some of the popular ones being The Big Chill, Urban
Cafe, Chonas, Mamagoto, Sidewok, The Blue Door Cafe, Smoke House Deli & The
Kitchen. The cuisines here range from American breakfast joints to Italian,
Thai, Mexican, Continental, Malaysian, Burmese, Lebanese & Indian etc. There
is a wide array of bakeries & patisseries such as Choko La & L’opera ,
however remains Khan Chacha for Kababs the place is surprisingly
pocket-friendly for a joint which is placed in one of the most expensive lanes.
There is no
escape from this place. Once you visit it you can’t help but come again &
again – rediscovering it each time.
